Sent mail not being saved in sent items folder

Sent mail not being saved in sent items folder

I have a WinNT4-SP6 workstation, running Office2K-SP1.  In Outlook
2000, the user has her MS Exchange mailbox and several PST archive
folders.  One of those PST folders used to be her mail delivery
location.  That has since been changed back to her Exchange folder
(the changes does not correspond, timewise, with the problem I am
describing).  Now, though, when she sends e-mail, the sent emails are
not being saved in the "Sent Items" folder of her Exchange mailbox.
They continue to go to the "Sent Items" folder of her PST file.  I
have checked to ensure that the option to 'Save sent items in the sent
items folder' is checked.  It was working properly for two days, then
it just switched iteself (it seems) to save those into the PST folder
instead of the Exchange box.  I'm certified in Office 2000 and have
never seen this.  Any help is greatly appreciated, as this is
extremely frustrating.  As a patch, I have setup a rule to put sent
items in the proper folder, although this is creating duplicate items
in seperate folders.

Thanks, in advance.

Sent mail not being saved in sent items folder
I just found the resolution!!

I'll bet your "sent items' folder has 16,383 items in it... thats the
max.

SYMPTOMS
When you try to send mail in Microsoft Outlook, mail messages you
recently sent remain in the Outbox and display the open letter icon.
Although the mail seems to be delivered, the mail messages do not move
to Sent Items.
CAUSE
The number of messages in your Sent Items folder is at its maximum
capacity. The maximum number of items this Outlook folder can store is
16,384.

NOTE: You can increase the capacity of your Personal Folders file to
approximately 64,000 items by selecting the "Allow upgrade to large
tables" feature.
