I assume that you have Outlook 2002 - there's a bug in that that only allows
you to enter 4 digits for the port number for SMTP, POP3, and IMAP accounts.
You can work around this by setting the port values in the registry (for
information about the registry, see
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;256986). This will
be easier if you set your port number to something easily identified, like
"1234", in Outlook. Once that's done, go to Start | Run and type "regedit".
In regedit, navigate down to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging Subsystem\Profiles, then select the
profile name that you're using. Under this you'll see lots of gobbledygook,
but one entry will have a '+' next to it - expand that entry. Now look
through the keys under that entry you've expanded - in one of them, you'll
see a value like "SMTP Port" or "POP3 Port" that is set to the value you set
in Outlook. Edit that entry and enter the real value you want, then close
regedit.
Good luck!
