Custom Shows loop without returning to main show

Hello Everybody!

Here is the setup for what I want:
 - Slide show that progresses up to a slide with company logos all over.
- These logos are all linked to two-slide Custom Shows for each company.
- These Custom Show slides need to be hidden.
- The show needs to progress, at the presenter's leisure, past the company
logos page to the slides that follow.
- For logistical reasons, this has to be one file - not multiple PPTs linked
together.

Know the problem yet?  It seems that everything gears together okay, but
when viewing the Custom Shows, they get stuck in a loop.  If the hidden
features are disabled, or in other words there are no hidden slides, then
the linking mechanism works fine and after slide two of the Custom Show
we're back where we started.  Fine, but I really wanted those slides hidden
for a reason.

Precious little written on this one, apparently.  I have referenced Q226656
and Q189959, the only semi-related articles I could find.  There seem to be
no solid articles on how PowerPoint reconciles the rules of Custom Shows and
Hidden Slides when used simultaneously.

Any help, explanations or fancy workarounds would be appreciated.  Thanks,
as always!

Why can't it be multiple powerpoint files?

If you don't mind multiple files then it's problem solved at

Custom Shows loop without returning to main show
Hey TAJ --

That was a great tutorial, and I appreciate the reference.  The client for
whom I am working, however, is insistent that this must be one PPT.  That
should be fine, really, because what she is trying to do is perfectly
reasonable.  I've repeated it many times, but on PP2K - not PP97 (yet).

So the issue appears to be file-specific, but the question is why?  I've
imported the objects independent of the formatting, and re-established the
behaviors in the new PPT.  The issue reappeared.  I remain uncertain as to
why.

Any other thoughts would be appreciated.  Is this an issue that has been
seen before?  Is it specific to PP97?  What else would cause the behavior?

Tally Ho!
