 Still can't install new fonts

Re my previous message - 'Can't Install Fonts'

That is the problem I'm afraid.  There is no 'Install New Fonts' command in
the menu.

I've been very, very careful to check that this is the case.

Completely stumped.

Maybe a problem with Windows 98 installation.  Factory installed version -
no help from
supplier forthcoming.

Any ideas or similar experiences?

Hopefully

 Still can't install new fonts
How many fonts do you have installed right now?  There's a top end to how
many Win95/98 can eat before it develops a severe case of indigestion.  One
sure sign that it has is when it tells you "No thanks, I simply couldn't eat
another font".

No hard and fast numbers for how many; it depends on the names of the fonts,
where they're stored, are they links vs TTFs and such.

But what happens if you remove some of 'em?

 Still can't install new fonts
Jim,

Couple of thoughts.

You could have a bad install of Win98 but I doubt it.  You are certain that
when you open the fonts folder from the control panel and then select file,
there is no option to install new fonts?  I only ask because I can't see
your screen from here. <g>

Next did the font provider supply software to install their fonts?  And if
so, did this installation go bad?  I ask as this can leave the OS in limbo
and until it's resolved you won't be able to use the add fonts option.

Next question, if you were installing the new fonts, did you have a default
printer on the system?  This too can cause problems.

A work around:  From the command line (Start - Run) run Fontreg.exe.  This
will bring up the Add Font Dialog box.  From there follow the directions.  I
suggest doing this after a fresh start up with no other programs running.

If the vendors installation went bad this *should* repair the damage to your
system registry.

Another trick -

Restart the system in safe mode.  Let it come up, quit, then restart
normally.  I understand that this forces a delete/rebuild of TTFCACHE
