Diameter symbol???

Hello,
I'm working on someone else's spreadsheet that contains a diameter
symbol(cirlcle with a diagonal line through it).
the formula for the cells are     "f .  no equals sign just the " and small
letter f.

Any idea how this is created/formatted and is there a listing of all symbols
somewhere?

thank you.

Diameter symbol???
They have formatted the cell for the font 'Symbol', in which F is the greek
letter Phi.

Diameter symbol???
Greetings. That is the letter f formatted as font that includes the diameter
symbol. Check out the font with the menu items < format < cells -- font.

In Word if you go to < insert < symbol you can see the entire list of the
different symbols attached to the specific font. In Excel the only way I
know to look at all of them would be to type all of the keys strokes.

You can use character map (in windows directory) to view all symbols
available within a font style or setup a small spreadsheet to do it.

OR

Fill one column with the numbers 1 through 255 (A1:A255).
Enter the formula =char(A1) is cell B1, then double click on the lower right
corner of the cell to autofill the B column.  Now you can easily change the
font of the entire column at once.

it is also  "f" in the symbol font.   I use a macro to
get to the CharMap as a menu item.  See
http://www.geocities.com/davemcritchie/rexx/htm/symbols.htm

Sub showCharMap()
'find CharMap in something like one of these...
'vCharMap = Shell("C:\Windows\CharMap.exe", 1)
vCharMap = Shell("C:\winnt\system32\CharMap.exe", 1)
End Sub
