How do you increase the thickness of underline when applying it to words?

Thanks

You don't. This is built into the font. But you can apply a bottom border
and control the width of that.

Thanks for reminding me of this new feature in Word 2000/2002. A little
"extra" I'd forgotten about! (Though my guess is that what Word is really
doing is applying a border to the bottom of the text, so my answer is still
sort of correct. <g>)

It doesn't seem to be a border, because if you apply it and then go to
Format | Borders and select None, it stays there.

Many things that Word does "behind the curtain" are not reflected in dialog
boxes.
