One thing to remember about tabs in Word.  Tabs are attributes of the
paragraph.  If you apply tabs to a paragraph, they will only apply to
that paragraph and further paragraphs you create by typing the Return
key at the end of that paragraph.  This is different from WordPerfect
where any formatting change you make applies to the end of the document
or to the point where you turn off that formatting change.  In Word, by
contrast, you must select all the paragraphs you want the tabs to be
applied to.  Also, leave your ruler displayed when working on tabs.

Hi Roberta,

If you are using tabs as you are in your cries for Help <grin> such as using <Tab Tab Tab> to move the cursor to a specific point then that is the problem. You should only use one tab and over-ride the default tab stop with a manual tab.

Here's a little more on what I think is happening:

First turn on your nonprinting characters <Ctrl Shift *> or ? in the Standard toolbar. Each arrow represents a tab, and each default tab stop is 1/2" so think of each arrow taking up 1/2" of space. If you have text even with the left margin and use 5 tabs to move to the 2 1/2" mark you still only have 1/2" of space to type, not 2 1/2". Now if you set a manual tab at the 2 1/2" mark then you have 2 1/2" of space to type in before you exceed the width of the tab.

If this isn't what you are encountering, please post back with some specifics on how they are "reconforming" and we'll go from there. :-)
