Is there a way to add extra or custom made symbols to the insert symbol
dialogue box in word 97

Hi Marc,

The Insert=>Symbols dialog shows you the character set in a font,
which, with a Unicode font in Word97 can have several thousand
characters in a 16bit Unicode TTF font, so the way you would
'modify' it would be to install or modify a font with a symbol
you wanted.  If you mean the other tab with the hardcoded
predefined 'common' symbols with keyboard shortcuts (such as
En dash and copyright symbol, I don't believe that list
is editable.
