Using Insert Address button with Address List

On a Win98SE system with Word2000 (no other Office apps), I have
followed the instructions at
< http://www.*-*-*.com/ ; to add
the Insert Address button to my main toolbar. When I click the Insert
Address button, it states that I must first log on to Microsoft
Exchange, which I neither have nor want. From what I read in recent
posts, it sounds like there is no way to make Word use addresses that I
input using the Win98 applet at Start/Programs/Accessories/Address
Book.

Is there an application other than Office Outlook that will keep a
basic database of mailing addresses that I can access through the
Insert Address button in Word or other simple method of pasting?

That is correct. Word's Address Book works *only* with address books that
are MAPI-registered, which means you have to have at least the messaging
part of Exchange installed. The MS Address books that meet this
requirement are Outlook Contacts, Exchange PAB, and Schedule+ Contacts.

You canNOT use the Windows Address Book.

Outlook Express is the culprit.  Go to support.microsoft.com and
search for Q178481 in the Knowledge Base.  It addresses the problem.
Basically, you need to go to Start/Settings/Control Panel and then
select Internet Options.  Under the Programs tab, select Microsoft
Outlook instead of Outlook Express as your e-mail program.  Voila!
