Word formula SUM(ABOVE) won't include Excel Spreadsheet calc

Dear All

Using Word 97 on Windows 95, I use the SUM(ABOVE) formula to total a columns
figures. If a figure in this column happens to be a Excel spreadsheet insert
calculation then it is not included in the SUM(ABOVE) formula

Anybody now a way round this?. The inbuilt Word97 formula range is very
limited even for simple calculations

The calculation is the number of months since September 98 x 150 + a base
start value used for working out what I've paid somewhere.
