Save-Changes prompt appears even if unchanged

A workbook I've been editing for several months has just now begun to show
me the "Do you want to save changes" prompt upon being closed, when I've
merely opened it (no editing).

I haven't added any event-based macros (or ANY macros, for that matter)
for months.  The worksheet data or structure hasn't changed much (it's
simple, just one huge sheet containing a big mailing list).  Checked it
for viruses -- it's clean.  I'm betting there's a simple explanation,
but it totally escapes me.  What else could make this start happening?
Where am I forgetting to look?

The prompt DOESN'T appear if I do an explicit Save just before closing.

Grateful for any help (& hoping not to be too embarrassed by the answer!),

Do you have =Now() anywhere in the spreadsheet?

No, there are no functions or formulas.   It's all just data (text).
