 Excel 2000 MDI window has Close button greyed out

 Excel 2000 MDI window has Close button greyed out

Anyone know why when in Excel, if I close down all the active documents, I
can only close Excel by clicking File, Exit.

The X in the top rhs corner is greyed out so I can't close it that way.
I can't see why this is when the File, Exit method is available.
