Missing close button in EXCEL 97

The close button (X) in the top right of Excel 97 is greyed out and can't be
clicked on.  I have to FILE - EXIT instead.  This has happened over the last
two days and effects anyone who runs excel over the network.  Anybody any
ideas??

We have checked the network drive where the application is stored with VET
9.9.4 and it checks out OK.  All the networked PC's we have scanned also
check OK.  I will try and get hold of the latest virus signatures in the
meantime.  Any other ideas?

Wasn't a virus.  It was a macro which ran because someone with supervisor
access integrated Novell groupwise 5.5 with office 97.  This caused a macro
called GWXL97.XLA to be placed in the network excel startup folder which
runs everytime someone starts excel.  It just happens to disable the close
button as part of the integration.

Have had the same problem.
Renaming both xla-files didn't help. How did you correct the problem?

Sorry for the mess - my mailserver had some problems with relaying

Missing close button in EXCEL 97

When I remove the file, Excel does not function properly anymore.
I found this out, because I deinstalled the new GroupWise-client (5.5), and
apparently it also removed GWXL97.XLA, and Excel was now asking for it (?!).
I believe the order of installation might be an answer. Perhaps when one first
installs GroupWise, and then the Office-suite, it might be a different scenario
(but I haven't tried it).
I just reinstalled the GroupWise client without choosing the options for
integration with Microsoft applications. Now all works fine.
