Problem with closing Excel with the close button

This is a weird occurrence that I am encountering with Excel and win98
second edition.

When Excel is launched, it takes up the whole screen.  I no longer have
access to the windows task bar located at the bottom of the screen.
Hovering over that area does not help.
Then when trying to close Excel using the upper right x button, all it does
is close the sheet and not Excel.  The only way to close it is File Exit
i.e. via the menu.

This is only happening with the Excel application, not word nor anything
else!

Can somebody point me in the right direction.

Thanks,
Dominique

I'm just taking a shot in the dark here, but do you see to two close (X)
buttons at the top of the screen? One for the sheet and one for the
application? I'm guessing that the window of the Excel application has been
moved beyond the top viewing area of your screen. You can still access the
menu bar and the close button for the workbook, but is the banner still
visible, where it says Microsoft Excel and then the workbook name. Anyway..
I'm probably wrong, but I would check that first.

Or, perhaps the file was saved when it was in Full Screen mode.  Try to
bring it to Normal screen by pressing
Alt, v,u.

Problem with closing Excel with the close button
I have the same problem at work and come to think of it, when I close the sheet
even the windows task bar at the bottome is hidden.  So, someone has made the
window so large that most of it is off the monitor.  When I go back to work I
will have to check it out.  Thanks
