Word 2000 and Windows 2000 not printing EPS image

Hi,
I am planning a Windows 2000 Rollout and are currently in the initail test
stage.  I have installed Windows 2000 Pro with Office 2000 and are now
having problems printing a document that has an eps image set as the
background.  This document is then printed via a Tektronix Phaser 850
printer.

The problem is the image does not print.

It prints well from Office 2000 when running on Windows 98. but refuses to
print from Windows 2000.

I have tried the latest Phaser print drivers.  I have applied all the
patches I can find for Office 2000.  I have applied Windows 2000 SP2.
I have searched Technet Knowledgebase and found no answers.
I have downloaded the latest PostScript drivers from Adobe and installed
them.

I have been able to print from Windows 2000 when an Office XP demo was
installed.  I have also tried Office 2000 on Windows XP Pro and the document
did not print.
From this test I deducted that the problem is with Office 2000.

Has anyone had a similar problem printing EPS documents with Office 2000 on
Windows 2000?

Any help would be greately appreciated.

Thank you

I use EPSs all the time and have not had a problem. Perhaps the problem is
not with "Word 2000 and EPS" per se, but really lies in the fact that the
EPS is a background (I've never used a background in Word in ... well,
ever!).

Just curious ... have you tried making a PDF?

Q: The Phaser is set up to print using (e.g., what driver is installed)
[  ]  100 % "genuine PostScript"
[  ]  Emulated PostScript
[  ]  PCL
[  ]  Some other "page description language."

Q: What happens if you make an Acrobat PDF file from the document, and then print that
through Acrobat Reader ?

FWIW:
EPS is an acronym for "Encapsulated PostScript File Format." They print *_*only*_* on
PostScript printers.

Word 2000 and Windows 2000 not printing EPS image
Thanks for you feedback, heres more info:

When I say the EPS image is used as the background, it is placed in the
header and therefore is seen like a background image.

I have tried creating a PDF from the document in Windows 2000 and the
background does not come across to the PDF.  When a PDF is created in
Windows 98 the background does come across into the PDF, but as very poor
quality and I'm able to print this doc from Acrobat Reader.

I have downloaded the latest version of Windows 2000 Postscript drivers from
Adobe,  installed and used that to print to the Phaser.  This was also
unsuccessful.

I am at a loss to get this to print?
It prints from Office XP on Windows 2000, but not Office 2000 on Windows
2000?

Any further help or directives would be very very appreciated.

Regards
Brian

This indicates that you are getting the EPS *Preview* image ... not the vector EPS
graphic.

Other than that, my only thought is ...
are you printing in *PostScript* ... to a *PostScript* *printer* ?

Trying to print an EPS graphic to a non-PostScript printer would produce exactly the
symptoms you describe ... including your description of how it prints in Win98/Acrobat.

Have you tried the EPS all by itself on a page ... not the header, but in the body?

Yes I have tried just about every thing I could.
I tried it in the body, no good

I am able to print it from Word 2002 on Windows 2000, but not Word 2000 on
Windows 2000.!!  I am printing using a Postscript driver to a postscript
printer, no good!!

I rang Microsoft Support today and they told me that its the way Word 2000

I did not want to upgrade the office to Office XP......but, it looks like
I'll have to go to at least Word 2002.

I'm here to tell that you don't need 2002; Word has been importing EPS just fine for many years. Either there is a specific problem with the system or with the graphic itself.

You'r competely correct, somehow every single document that has the eps
inserted does not print, but when I got a copy of the original from the
graphic designer it now prints.

Somehow, I do not know how, every document has a crappy/currupted eps image
in it.

I do not know how every image got stuffed, what a waste of time

Thanks for your help.
