OE 5.00/5.01, O2k, IE 5.01/5.5: what is the right trio?
I work with Windows 98 second edition and Office 2000, including of course
Outlook 2k.
My problems began when I installed Internet Explorer 5.01: I could not open
Outlook Express, even after having defined it as the standard programme for
mail in IE properties (programmes tab).
Someone suggested me to install IE 5.5 beta. This fixed the opening problem
of OE, but created other problems related with the beta status of IE 5.5 :
eg, saving of webpages (sometimes) and printing them (much more often) +
suppression of Windows update. Moreover, the MVPs of the IE 5.5 newsgroup
proclaimed that the non-specialists who wanted to work with IE 5.5 were
stupid and boring (by the way: congratulations to Microsoft for its respect
of the users!!).
I uninstalled IE 5.5 by using a procedure given (by PJ) in the newsgroup,
which led me to use the installation program of W98se. I kept OE 5.5, but my
IE version was 5.00 and not 5.01.
I installed I.E. 5.01 alone: I kept OE 5.5 and could still open it.
I dowloaded the so-called IE 5.01's Internet tools which were listed after
checking by Windows update .... and I became again unable to open OE.
Result: I went back to IE 5.5, with which I can use OE, but with which I
spend one hour and half to save 5 pages of the Business Week web site (with
a crash every time I tryto save directly).
My question: How can I run IE 5.01 (and all its satellite programmes) with
either OE 5.01 (or 5.00?) or E 5.5?
I send this post in different newsgroupsto be certain to be in the right
one: IE5.5, IE 5.01OE, Outlook.
