I can think of two reasons why you are having this problem. First of all,
are you sure you bought an iMac with a DVD-ROM? Most of the new ones have
CD-RWs instead.
You may also need to upgrade your Apple DVD player. You can do this at
Apple's site, www.versiontracker.com, or possibly with the Software Update
control panel.
