If the Attachments column is displayed, you'll see the paper clip
designating there is an attachment in the mail list. When viewing the email
whether by the Preview pane or by double-clicking it to open it in a
separate window, the attachments are listed in the grey header section
(under the Subject field, or under the From field if you turned off the
display of headers).
