OE 6 will not reopen after it is closed

I have an odd problem. If I  close OE after reading messages,  it
will not reopen later unless I reboot. The Internet works fine and my
connection
is good but OE just won't open.  Is there a registry edit or something I can
do to correct it?

To me, the obvious solution would be to reinstall OE6 but
I don't see where it can be downloaded independently of IE6, like in the
past.  Also, in the past you could go to Add/Remove Programs and Repair IE
but that is not even an option now with WIndows XP Pro.

Any thoughts? Thanks~!

Sounds almost certain like you installed something else that has messed up
your OE setup. Depending on your version of Windows, could even by something
like MS Fax.

Try checking all installed (including "hidden") software with Regcleaner. It
will also show you what programs start up. If there is something there that
shouldn't be, try disabling it from starting up (not uninstalling) it.

Also, try running msconfig.exe (but shhh, Microsoft might be reading
this!!).

Do you get an error message?
What is the exact error message?
If there is a Details button click that and give us the first two lines.

I too have this problem,, I open OE6 in XP Pro. when i am
finished I go :file:exit and log off identity.

If I try to relaunch OE6, the hard drive light comes on,
the mouse cursor changes, but no OE6 appears.  You don't
get an error message.  The only way to open OE6 again is
to logoff and then back on,,

any help would be great,,, I have also run form the run
command sfc/ scannow.  This has not rectified the problem.

any help greatly appreciated,, it is getting so
frustrating now.

Thanks

Same here. No error message at all. I am running XP Pro and it is only me,
no other identities.

Try turning off background compaction under Tools | Options | Maintenance and compact manually and frequently using File | Folder | Compact all.  See if that makes any difference.

You can also try clearing your Temporary Internet files in IE and delete all offline content.

If none of that helps, try going to start | run and type msconfig and disable all startup items and reboot and see if OE behaves then.

If not, then see this article on how to repair IE and OE in XP:
