 OE6 re-sends, and re-sends, and re-sends

I have got this problem too: OE6 places outgoing messages
in the outbox, sends them, but thinks it hasn't sent them
and gives me an error message without giving any helpful
or (to me) comprehensible information, and thenm locks
itself up: nothing in, nothing out. To get OE to function
again, I have to re-start it - at which points it sends
all the messages in the outbox again, and then tells me
gaian that it hasn't been able to send them; and so it
goes on. It won't let me delete anything in the outbox, or
move it to another folder, or drag it into the desktop
wastebin. PC-cillin assures me that the computer is virus
free. Any ideas, anyone?

Most likely a corrupted Outbox. I assume since it's been sending over
and over, you don't have to worry about saving any thing.  Do this:

Tools>Options>Maintenance>Store folder will reveal the location
of your Outlook Express files. Press the Tab key to highlight the
folder location, then Ctrl+C. Close OE, then Start>Run>Ctrl+V will
put the location in the box - Click OK and you'll see the OE files.
Otherwise, write the location down and navigate to it in Windows
Explorer.

In WindowsXP, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default
marked as hidden. To view these files in Explorer, you must enable
Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start>Control Panel>Folder
Options>View.

With OE closed, find the DBX file for the folder in
question {Outbox.dbx} and delete it.  A new one will be created
automatically when you open OE.

Do not archive mail on default OE folders. They will eventually
become corrupted. Create your own user defined folders for storing
mail and move your mail to them. Empty Deleted Items folder
regularly.

After you are done, follow up by compacting your folders manually
while working *offline* and do it often.

File>Work Offline (or double click Working Online in the Status Bar).
File>Folder>Compact all folders.

In Tools>Options>Maintenance: Uncheck Compact messages in background
and leave it unchecked.

Close OE
launch Explorer
tools
folder options
VIEW tab
checkmark in "show hidden files and folders"
no checkmark in "hide extensions of known filetypes" &
no checkmark in "hide protected operating system files"
click on APPLY button
click on OK

goto Documents and settings
click on + next to your user account
click on + next to local settings
click on + next to application data
click on + next to identities
click on + next to {misc #######}
click on + next to Microsoft
click on + next to Outlook Express
right column, delete outbox.dbx, sent items.dbx,
& deleted items.dbx
close Explorer, shut down, restart
OE will recreate these folders automatically when you
launch OE

Hope this helps
